Currently, there are only two hair removal methods that can be considered permanent:  electrolysis and laser.  Of these, only electrolysis is truly permanent the first time around for most people.  While lasers work fairly well, it takes several treatments before unwanted hair can be considered gone permanently.

Note: recently, however, some creams have come on the market that are natural, painless and become permanent after awhile.  We'll have an update for you shortly so you can check these out.

Considerations

The method you choose is going to be based on a variety of factors, including pain tolerance, time, finances and personal preferences.  You probably also want to consider where you want the hair to be removed and why before making a final decision.

As both of these hair removal procedures are primarily done by licensed technicians, be sure to do your research to get a technician who is right for you.  Be sure to get a test before starting full treatment so you can check the level of pain you experience and the effectiveness of that treatment for you.

If you have a problem with back hair, chances are you want to do something about it.  You probably also want it to be painless, inexpensive and permanent.

While getting rid of the hair on other parts of your body isn't difficult, it's pretty hard to reach your back and do a good job.

Here are a few tips on how to get rid of the hair on your back.  As you look at the options, consider what your goal is for getting rid of back hair.  Is it just for the summer so you can go to the beach?  Is it for life because you or your partner don't care for it?  Make your decision based on what you want to accomplish.

Hair Removal at Home

There are a number of products you can use at home to do general hair removal from most parts of your body.  The back is a bit more of a challenge, depending on if you have someone to help you or not.

Shaving

While it only lasts a few days, it is instant.  The big drawback, as you may already know, is that it starts itching something awful as the hair grows back.  Plus, you have to shave on a regular basis to keep your back nice and hair free.

The other drawback is that it can be difficult to reach a few places, which invites nicks and cuts if you're doing it yourself.  Not a fun experience.  Especially if you're doing it regularly.

Waxing

The pluses to this technique is that it lasts longer than shaving (about 3-4 weeks) and is easy to do from home if you have assistance.  If you live alone or don't want a friend to see it, you can have this done in a salon so that it stays private.

Depilatory creams

The cream dissolves the hair and you simply wipe it away.  This is probably the easiest to do yourself with the least amount of discomfort.  It can last from 3-14 days.  This is a very nice choice if you want something quick and inexpensive.  Nads has a great reputation, so you may want to give that a try.

Laser Hair Removal

This lasts the longest - up to several months.  However, you probably don't want to do this at home.  While there are kits available for home use, you need to do your research to find the right machine for you.  It also works best on dark hair.  So if you have light hair, this option will probably not work for you.

Also keep in mind, it is expensive and not permanent.

Electrolysis

This is permanent or the closest you can get to permanent.  While there are home electrolysis kits, you probably want to have your back hair removed in a salon because it will be difficult to do a good job in this area.

Some people report mild discomfort with this technique and others feel a lot more pain.  You cannot rely on the experience others have in this area.  Everyone feels pain differently, so if you decide to go this route, find a good licensed electrolysist and test it out first.

You might also want to ask around for recommendations so you're more likely to find just the right person for you.

Other considerations

You may want to check with your doctor before you begin the process of removing your back hair, especially if you have any allergies.

Cost can also be a consideration, so be sure to do your research. But don't pick a method that causes you a lot of pain just to save a little money.  The cost in pain may just be a little too high.

Also consider convenience.  What's going to work with your schedule?  And what fits in with your long-term goals in removing the hair on your back.
